Following recent investments from Francisco Partners and Accel Partners, Plex Systems – the leader in cloud-based ERP for manufacturers – today announced the appointment of technology industry veteran Jason Blessing as the company’s chief executive officer. The appointment comes at a time when the company is entering its next growth phase, resulting from small and medium-sized manufacturers making the critical business decision to embrace cloud-based ERP systems. “Manufacturing ERP is, by far, the most complex enterprise software to design and build,” said Blessing. “Plex Systems is the first company to build a cloud-based manufacturing ERP solution and has a significant lead over its competitors in this space. The company has built the most complete cloud offering for manufacturing at precisely the time when manufacturers have become comfortable moving this critical component of their business to the cloud.” Blessing joins Plex Systems from Oracle, where he was senior vice president of application development. Previously, he held a variety of executive roles at Taleo, including general manager of its small and medium-sized business unit and, most recently, executive vice president of products and technology. Taleo, a pioneer in cloud-based talent management solutions, was acquired by Oracle last year. Blessing has also held a variety of executive positions at PeopleSoft, Oracle and Price Waterhouse during his 20-year career in enterprise software. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan. Blessing will direct the expansion of Plex Systems as the company continues to invest in its expanding sales force and its award-winning “shop floor to top floor” technology for ERP, manufacturing execution, quality management, supply chain management and business intelligence. “With its recent $30 million investment from Accel and by naming Jason Blessing as its CEO, Plex Systems is showing a continuing commitment to driving cloud technology in manufacturing organizations,” said Nick Castellina, an enterprise applications research analyst at Aberdeen. “Aberdeen’s research indicates growing acceptance of cloud ERP in manufacturing, and Plex Online is positioned to meet those needs.” Aberdeen further cited that while trends in cloud and SaaS ERP adoption have more than doubled since 2009, trends in the adoption of on-premise solutions have decreased by more than 25 percent. Plex Systems’ cloud-based technology addresses the needs for today’s global, fast-paced manufacturers in all industries to be increasingly transparent, nimble and cost-efficient. “Francisco Partners acquired Plex Systems last year on the belief that there is a long-term, value creation opportunity in cloud-based ERP, and we expect a greater and greater percentage of the ERP market to move to SaaS offerings like those offered by Plex Systems,” said Petri Oksanen, a principal at Francisco Partners. “Jason brings a tremendous breadth and depth of operational expertise that will accelerate Plex Systems’ product development and business growth. His experience in scaling cloud solutions like Taleo and his years with PeopleSoft and Oracle make him the ideal leader to guide the existing management team and take Plex Systems to the next level. ” About Plex Systems, Inc. Plex Systems Inc. is the developer of Plex Online, a Cloud ERP solution for the manufacturing enterprise. Plex Online offers industry-leading features for virtually every department within a manufacturer, including Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Quality Management System (QMS) for the shop floor, Supply Chain Management (SCM) for procurement, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for finance and management, and Business Intelligence (BI) for executive management. Gary Slater joins Ariba as its Vice President of Operations. Gary came from LiveOps where he was the Vice President of Network Operations & IT. It all began years ago, with crayons, a paper tablecloth, and some imagination. Over sandwiches at Quadrus Café in Menlo Park, seven colleagues talked about how much time and money businesses wasted whenever they bought goods and services. Their beef: cumbersome and costly paper-intensive processes. They sketched out on the table what an automated solution would have to look like:
It would have a walk-up user interface. It would integrate with enterprise financial systems. It would hook right up to the suppliers. It would run on this new thing called the Internet. And it would fundamentally change business models.
And that’s how Ariba was born. For more than 16 years now, we’ve helped companies like yours control spending and cut costs. We became widely recognized as the leading provider of spend management solutions.
But our solutions have evolved. See, we know that business commerce doesn’t happen within the four walls of your organization. It happens outside, in the space between you and your trading partners. Where business commerce has been notoriously costly and inefficient.
Until now. Ariba is today the leading provider of collaborative business commerce solutions. We help companies extend their business commerce processes into the cloud, where they can use our solutions and the Ariba Network to work more efficiently and effectively with their trading partners, and drive more value whenever they’re buying, managing cash, or selling.
Today, the Ariba Network is the world’s largest trading partner community, home to more than 730,000 companies, including more than half of the Fortune 500. And over the next 24 hours, using our solutions and network, companies around the world will:
Buy and sell nearly $822 million worth of goods and services
Save over $82 million in supply costs
Process more than 250,000 purchase orders and payments
And, manage a whole host of other commerce collaborations, like discovering new business opportunities, negotiating contracts, and strengthening working capital.

Nicira, the once secretive networking technology start-up that aims to mess up the business of giants like Cisco Systems, has just made another key executive hire. Denis Murphy, the senior vice president for the Americas at Riverbed Technology, has joined Nicira as VP of Sales.
Murphy has spent the last eight years at Riverbed, and before that spent about seven years at places like Mercury Interactive, EMC and BlueArc. He’s joining Nicira just as it’s getting off the ground for real. It has been hiring an impressive roster of people away from companies like Cisco and Juniper for several months.
Nicira is backed by investments from Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners and NEA, plus personal investments from VMWare founder Diane Greene and venture capitalist Andy Rachleff. I first noticed it when it hired Alan Cohen away from Cisco as its vice president of marketing.
It aims to be the vendor of a new networking technology that’s built specifically for the age of cloud computing. While the pipes through which bits flow in and out of data centers have gotten faster, there’s a need to make them smarter and more flexible, not unlike virtual servers in that data center. Adding Nicira’s software to a server creates the ability to “spin up” virtual networks as readily as you might virtual servers in order to meet surging demand. Nicira calls it an NVP, or network virtualization platform. AT&T, eBay, Fidelity Investments, Rackspace and the Japanese telecom giant NTT are all using Nicira, the company says.

Since the CloudBees adventure started, a little over a year ago, we've made very fast progress and delivered the only end-to-end, develop-to-deploy, Java PaaS on the market, available in GA.
But our progress hasn't been solely on the product side, we've also made considerable steps forward on the business side with - for example - the recent addition of Josh Allen to the team. Today, we are announcing a key hire: Jim McLoughlin is joining CloudBees as VP of Sales.
Finding the proper profile for this position has been an interesting challenge. We wanted somebody who understand developers on one hand, who understand Enterprises one the other, and, since we are in the cloud-era, somebody who also perfectly masters the SaaS no-touch/low-touch business models. Furthermore, since the cloud is a nascent market, I wanted somebody with substantial "depth".
Thanks to his past experiences at Borland, Peoplesoft, JD Edwards and more recently Appirio, Jim has this unique mix of skills, and I am very proud to have him part of the team.

"As a proven executive who has been at the helm of three IPOs and driven two successful acquisitions, Shawn's leadership and pedigree is exactly what Zuora needs to capitalize on the subscription management market's multi-billion dollar potential," said Tien Tzuo, CEO, Zuora.
Prior to joining Zuora's team, several leading venture capital firms sought after Price to assist with strategy development ranging from operations and finance to M&A. His engagements included Clairmail, the leader in mobile banking, Provade, the leader in outsourced SaaS contract labor management, and many more.
As CEO, President and Chairman of the Board of Savvion, the global leader in business process management, Price was responsible for all strategic and operational functions of the company. Under Price's direction, Savvion grew in excess of 100% quarter over quarter, secured 300 of the Global 1000, launched the company's international operations with operating subsidiaries in India, and was recipient of the Deloitte Fast 50 Award.
Before Savvion, Price was Senior Vice President and General Manager Americas at Vitria where he oversaw 75 percent of revenues since the company's founding. Price led the most successful IPO of 1999, grew the company revenues from zero to $135 million and created Vitria's breakout Telecom strategy that resulted in a $10 billion market cap.
In broader circles, Shawn is known as the winner of the 2002 Baja 1000, the 2005 Rolex 24-Hours at Daytona International Sports Car Race and the Top Rider from the Americas to complete the world-famous Paris-Dakar Rally on a motorcycle, riding over 7,000 miles in the grueling African desert in only 19 days.

"If past achievement is any measure of future deeds, Zuora is on a steep trajectory towards owning the subscription billing market."
"The Subscription Economy is a market-driven phenomenon as evidenced by the success of Zuora's customer base—people want to purchase goods and services via subscription," said Price. "We're disrupting a multi-billion dollar industry and have delivered on our vision with a set of world-class products to manage billing and revenue operations and deliver pricing flexibility as a competitive advantage."

Damballa's unique approach finds previously unidentified threats used in the escalating wave of cybercrime, then closes the hidden two-way communications channels that cybercriminals use to manipulate compromised corporate systems. These attacks are silent, stealthy and the weapon of choice for online attacks, fraud and abuse. "These threats infiltrate even the best protected enterprise networks and turn corporate assets into contributors for criminal activity. That's why senior executives increasingly see a proactive defense as a critical part of their fiduciary responsibility," says Val Rahmani, Damballa's new CEO. "I am very excited by Damballa's vision and our unmatched ability to find and stop these threats."
Rahmani brings over 25 years of customer-driven business and technical leadership to Damballa. Most recently, she served as General Manager of IBM's Internet Security Systems (ISS) division. Prior to ISS, Rahmani directed several multi-billion dollar hardware, software and services businesses. As CEO, Rahmani plans to significantly grow Damballa's customer base, extend the company's reach into new markets, and accelerate research and product development. The company is already moving aggressively to hire top-tier talent to complement its current staff.
Damballa's new round of investment was led by Palomar Ventures. Current investors InterWest Partners, Noro-Mosely Ventures and Sigma Partners all participated in this round. Jim Gauer, Managing Director at Palomar and veteran IT venture capital fund manager has joined Damballa's board, as has Fran Dramis, formerly Senior Vice President and CIO at Bellsouth. Mr. Dramis currently serves on multiple public and private boards.
Industry experts have welcomed Damballa's news. "The threat has evolved, and with few exceptions the security industry has not," says Joshua Corman, Research Director for Security at The 451 Group, a leading technology analyst organization. "While the majority of time and money is spent on static compliance checklists, dynamic adversaries have expanded from ego-driven vandals to profit- and politically-driven Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). Stealthy, sophisticated malware masterfully exploits the blind spots of legacy security - leaving enterprises exposed to loss and unwitting participation in deplorable forms of criminal and state-sponsored campaigns. We're pleased to see Damballa focused on modern, under-addressed threats."
Fran Dramis, industry veteran and new Damballa board member, comments that, "Damballa has a unique - and uniquely effective - product that keeps corporate assets from being used for criminal activity. It's this ability to both protect and integrate seamlessly with other solutions that's so interesting, and why Damballa presents a great growth opportunity to build a next-generation computer security company."
"This investment is a huge vote of confidence in our people and in our technology," says Rahmani. "We now have both the ability and the resources to deliver what's fundamentally missing in network security - the ability to stop even the most sophisticated cybercriminal threats."
About Damballa, Inc.
Damballa closes enterprise security gaps by rapidly identifying and disrupting the open communications channels that online criminals use to infiltrate enterprise networks. These products and services integrate easily with existing security investments for accurate, cost-effective protection against hidden breaches that evade other solutions. Damballa stops these breaches through high-fidelity detection, powerful mitigation guidance for botnet malware, and simple passive integration with existing network and security infrastructure. The result is a smarter, more flexible security solution that responds to a wider range of current and future online threats. Damballa is privately held and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

"We are delighted to have three strong and talented executives join the company's leadership team to help in taking Arena into the next phase of its development," said Craig Livingston, chief executive officer of Arena Solutions. "Arun and Marc have certainly earned their promotions, having garnered respect for the significant contributions they've made to the company thus far, developing an application that, through its virtues, tends to sell itself. Doug comes to Arena with great accolades for his customer-focused approach and the marketing leadership he's provided in his past positions, having effectively bridged the gap between market comprehension and day-to-day execution of the strategies and tactics necessary to drive revenue for the software industry. We look forward to the programs he will establish that will increase awareness of Arena PLM and fill our pipeline with new companies that haven't already been introduced to Arena by our influential customers."
As vice president of marketing, Bell is responsible for all of Arena's corporate, field and product marketing, and will lead business development efforts. Before joining Arena, Bell was a vice president of marketing at Selectica, a leader in on-demand lifecycle management solutions for contract management and sales configuration. In his work at Selectica, he focused squarely on customers and designed programs that led to revenue growth of 450 percent in a single year. Focus on customers, building pipeline and growing revenue have also been hallmarks of his work in previous marketing leadership positions at Ariba and I-many, where Bell developed expertise in the supply chain management, sourcing and procurement fields. Deep experience in finance at operational powerhouses like Cisco, Coca-Cola Enterprises and GE Capital complements Bell's marketing experience and forms the foundation of his results-driven approach. Bell holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Drexel University.
As the vice president of engineering, Gopalakrishnan oversees all facets of software development at Arena, including quality assurance, testing and release. Gopalakrishnan combines deep technical expertise with extensive management experience. Before joining Arena in 2003, much of Gopalakrishnan's work was focused on developing software for engineers. As the senior engineering manager at Cadence Design Systems, a leading electronic design automation (EDA) technologies and engineering services company, he led a team to develop a new-generation, web-based printed circuit board (PCB) design environment. At OrCAD, where he worked before OrCAD was acquired by Cadence, Gopalakrishnan led the development of Activeparts.com, an online electrical parts library, and the widely used Component Information System (CIS) for OrCAD Capture. Gopalakrishnan holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Calicut, India.
As vice president of product design, Escobosa is responsible for guiding the product roadmap and designing the interaction model and user interface for all Arena products. Escobosa's commitment to building intuitive, easy-to-learn and easy-to-use interfaces stems from many years of experience in user-centered design and application interface design. He has worked with Arena since the company's beginning, designing the original Arena PLM interface as principal of the company's design partner, Zaudhaus, before joining Arena in 2004. Escobosa was a co-founder of Zaudhaus, which is a full-service design studio specializing in brand, experience and interface design. Before that he was the senior product designer at NetObjects, where he designed the interface for the first four major versions of Fusion, a groundbreaking visual website editor. He's been recognized for superior interaction design twice (once for Fusion and once for Arena PLM) by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) through that organization's IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) program, the premier international competition honoring design excellence. Escobosa graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dartmouth College with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
